The Salmagundi Club is pleased to announce its 2022 open New York Figurative exhibition. This will be an exhibition of figurative work and the human form in all of its permutations: portraiture, clothed, nude; focusing on the human form and/or face.

Salmagundi welcomes Max Ginsburg and Colleen Barry who will serve as the Jury of Awards.

What is the shape between memories and the present? Identity and the body? Embraces and resentments? Children and parents? Longing and fear? Intimacy and detachment? Our ancestry and our future?

In drawing, a negative shape is the space between objects. Although it is the contour of a void, perceiving this shape is essential to understanding the relationship between things.

1708 InLight 2020

Marcus-David Peters Circle is an animated artwork inspired by artists Dustin Klein and Alex Criqui’s

experiences as part of the Black Lives Matter movement in Richmond, Virginia, where their

nightly projections on the Robert E. Lee Monument have gained international attention. The

duo have partnered with visual artists Miguel Carter-Fisher and Josh Zarambo, as well as

photographer Zach Fichter, to create an innovative depiction of the transformation that has

taken place in the city of Richmond in the year 2020.

Come join us for an exhibition of 36 drawings and paintings by artist Miguel Carter-Fisher. The work featured was selected from a body of work spanning the last decade.

While the human figure has been Miguel’s primary subject the title “figurative painter” has never sat well with him.

“I don’t paint bodies, I paint people.”

Miguel is not interested in the body as an aesthetic object, but as an expressive extension of The individual personalities he is representing. For this reason Miguel often works with family and friends and draws heavily on memory.
