In the summer of 2023 I was awarded an artist residency at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris through the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. The Cité hosts a broad range of artists from all over the world.

During my residency I began a series of portraits of diverse Parisian individuals. The portraits are inspired by the painters of the Realist movement such as Daumier, Millet, and Courbet, who sought to capture life as they found it in the world around them. The people I met varied in age, socioeconomic class, and ethnicity but all call Paris home. While this body of work is in no way comprehensive, I hope that it gives a taste of the rich diversity of Parisian culture.
